Therapeutic Riding

The primary program that we offer is therapeutic rides. The program is run in 5-week sessions with one 45-minute ride per week. Each lesson consists of:

  • Stretching and balancing activities

  • Pattern - work hand-eye coordination and problem solving

Although the activities completed during each ride are the same, slight variations are made to accommodate different mobility and skill levels. Each ride consists of 3-4 riders, all of which are grouped based on ability and goals. Throughout each lesson, the riders work on improving their strength, balance, muscle tone, coordination, self-esteem, confidence and independence, among other things. On of the most important lessons each rider learns through this program is how to trust their horse. Although there is always at least one volunteer with each rider at all times, the true key to having a successful ride is for the each rider to create a bond with their horse and trust that they will keep them safe.

Generally there are two sessions run in the spring and another in the fall. Currently, we are offering this program on Monday and Wednesday evenings, but we are continuously reassessing the most suitable time of the week.

The current cost of a 5-week session is $360.
