Programs

The FTRA offers a variety of different horse centred programs to individuals with various disabilities. All of our programs incorporate equine therapy to provide self-reflection, self-awareness and the development of new skills to our clients, which helps enhance their mental health and wellness.

All programs are taught by a certified Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CANTRA) coach.

All new participants to the Therapeutic Riding, Mighty Minis, and equisizer must attend a trial ride before joining. Please visit our Trial Ride page to acquire more information.

Criteria for Entry

The following is a list of the main criteria that we have for our programs:

  • Minimum of 5 years of age

  • Have one or more of the following: Physical and/or neurological challenges, mobility disorders, cognitive impairment, or mental health and emotional trauma.

  • Must be able to stay on a horse for an entire lesson (only for therapeutic rides and Sonny)

  • Must have permission from a physician.

  • Must display appropriate behaviour - not placing self or others at risk.

  • Must be able to tolerate a riding helmet for the entire session.

We may sometimes offer programs that have other criteria. In those situations, we will list them.

We take great pride in creating long lasting bonds between our riders and horses through each of our programs.
